Lyman-Rich Sand & Gravel plants joined the Lyman-Richey Corporate Office in its annual diaper drive, sending a whopping 6,919 diapers to the Open Door Mission's Lydia House on Friday.

"The holidays can be stressful. And it can be even more so for families who are on a tight budget," said HR Generalist Kelly Hayduk. "They often face tough decisions, like having to choose between buying food for the family or diapers for their baby. Or trying to stretch the amount of diapers they have between paychecks.

"This is one thing we can do as a company to help families in our community."

The more than 6,900 diapers surpassed the company's 4,000-diaper goal and were stored at the corporate office and then taken to the Linden Market Hy-Vee collection point. Staff from the Channel 94.1 radio station were on hand to load the donations into trucks provided by Werner Trucking

Since 1954, Open Door Mission has been working to end poverty and homelessness in the Omaha area. The group opened their Lydia House for family shelter in 1999, and it grew into its own with a new facility built in 2008 and opened in 2010 with room for 72 single women and 46 families.
